FAQ
Questions students ask first
Straight answers about AI, mentor feedback, credits, timing, and the 1-day Core trial.
Why would I use an AI to write my college essay?
You are right. Good essays are only written by humans. Your voice, memories, taste, and judgment are the part that matters most.
AI helps because it can see underlying patterns that humans often miss. Because our AI is trained on 100s of essays, activities, and profiles that got into Ivies and other T10s, it can tell you which parts of your essay are strong, which parts feel generic, and where the story needs more specificity.
To refine it further, book a 1-on-1 session, or submit a Ping for mentor feedback.
What does Pingin do?
Pingin helps students improve essays, evaluate activities and profiles, find research opportunities, and get feedback from real mentors during the college application process.
What is the AI trained on?
Our AI is trained on 100s of essays, activities, and profiles that got into Ivies and other T10s. It looks for patterns in specificity, voice, activity framing, intellectual direction, and profile cohesion.
Do I get free credits when I sign up?
Yes. New free accounts start with 3 Research Finder credits and 2 Pings so you can try the most important workflows before upgrading.
How does the Core free trial work?
Pingin Core starts with a 1-day free trial. You add payment details when you start it, and billing begins only if you keep Core after the trial.
Can I still get human feedback?
Yes. You can submit a Ping for async mentor feedback, or book a live 1-on-1 session for deeper strategy and essay review.
Why should I start planning before senior year?
The timeline has moved earlier. More than 90% of students begin thinking about college before senior year, and nearly 40% start before high school. Starting earlier gives you more time to build activities, research experience, essays, and a school list instead of rushing everything in deadline season.
How does Pingin help me finish applications?
About one in four students who start a college application never finish it. Pingin breaks the process into smaller steps: essay feedback, profile review, research outreach, mentor Pings, and planning support, so students keep moving instead of getting stuck.
How many colleges should I apply to?
Many admissions experts recommend 8-12 schools across safety, target, and reach categories. Pingin helps you make each application sharper by checking whether your essays, activities, stats, and research story work together.
Does early application strategy matter?
Yes. Early Decision and Early Action pools can behave differently, and recent cycles have shown ED applicant and admit growth. The point is not to apply early everywhere; it is to know which school, round, testing choice, and story give you the strongest fit.
